Ancient Dambulla

Dambulla’s famed rock cave temple is an iconic Sri Lankan image – you’ll be familiar with its spectacular Buddha-filled interior long before you arrive in town. Despite its slightly commercial air, this remains an important holy place and should not be missed.
Major attraction, the Dambulla Rock Temple consisting of five cave temples dating back to the 1st century BC.
Other places of tourist interest are Iron Wood Forest and Rose Quartz Mountain. The site was declared as a human sanctuary by King Dappula in 10 century AD.
